HCPA Play Translator

Location: Remote

Pay: Royalties

We are looking to contract someone with a strong understanding of the language and culture. HCPA is developing translated versions of our original show Whatcha Thinkin’? by Christian D. Tesch and want an individual to go through to adapt and translate the material so the show is at the highest quality that HCPA can produce for audiences of different language backgrounds.

We are looking for someone to translate the material into these languages:

- Any Indigenous languages from the United States of America

- German

- Italian

- Ukrainian

- Irish

- French

- Swedish

Those are languages that we are looking for specifically, but if you come to us with your talents with a different language in mind HCPA is open for discussion.

Core Job Responsibilities:

- Reading through the original version of Whatcha Thinkin’? to understand the material

- Following deadlines set by HCPA, the playwright

Education, Experience, and Skills:

Please note that while the below qualifications are preferred for this position, we do not expect any one person to necessarily have all the items listed. We highly encourage people with a wide range of education, experience, and skill levels to apply for this position.

- High school degree - required

- College courses/degree in the language

- Lived in location where the locals speak the language fluently

- 2+ years of similar experience (or a combination of training, education, and experiences that provide the required knowledge and abilities)

- Strong and detailed-oriented communication, listening, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

- Self-motivated, extremely reliable, ability to work with clear instructions.

Job Requirements:

Fluent in the language that you would be translating the material into, and English with a strong understanding of the language and culture.

Pay:

You will not recieve any direct pay or stipend for your work translating the material, but you will recieve royalties payments for your version of the show where you would recieve a cut of the cross revenue from sales of copies of your version of the show, licensing fees for people to put on productions of your version of the show, etc.
